Adrian is an ARC DECRA Fellow in the Drugs, Gender and Sexuality program at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. He is an experienced researcher focussed on the social dimensions of alcohol and other drug use. Alongside his research on young people’s drug use and drug education, Adrian has completed projects on opioid overdose and take-home naloxone, hepatitis C treatment and healthcare access for people who consume drugs.

Reflecting his focus on reducing the stigma associated with health issues such as drug consumption and hepatitis C, Adrian regularly translates research findings into publicly available resources such as Overdoselifesavers.org and VitalvoicesonhepC.org.

Dr Adrian Farrugia

Gemma is a Research Associate with the Drugs, Gender and Sexuality program at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society. She completed her PhD in 2022, which examined the co-constitution of performance and image-enhancing drugs, health and masculinity in Australia. Her research interests include the sociology of drugs, health and medicine, particularly as they relate to matters of gender. Gemma’s other projects include hepatitis C treatment and efforts to address blood-borne virus-related stigma in healthcare.
